Advisers reviewing a capital structure working paper across a meeting room table in a Reading office

Reading, England

About Maplewood Partners Limited

A financial consulting and investment management firm based in Reading, registered in England and Wales under number 14850732. This page explains who we are, how the firm is structured, and what we expect of ourselves in client work.

A registered company, not a trading name

Companies House

The entity that contracts with a client is the same entity that appears on the public register. Company number, registered office and filing history are all checkable before a mandate starts.

Why we say so

Finance directors and compliance officers run the name before they sign. That is the right instinct, so the registration details sit in the footer of this site rather than behind an email exchange.

What it changes

Limited company status means filed accounts, a named registered office and a record that can be inspected independently of anything we write here.

How we are set up

Scope is written down before work starts, and the person who scopes the engagement is the person who delivers it.

Advisers working through a debt and equity structure schedule in a Reading office

What we actually do

We advise companies and investment vehicles on two things: how to structure and raise capital, and how to oversee the assets that result. In practice that covers funding advisory, debt and equity structures, transaction support, mandate design and reporting discipline.

We are not a bank, we do not hold client money, and we do not sell products. Where a mandate requires regulated activity that sits outside our permissions, we work alongside firms that hold them.

Capital

Funding advisory, debt and equity structures, and transaction support from first draft through to completion.

Oversight

Mandate design and reporting discipline for the assets a raise leaves behind on the balance sheet.

Where the firm is based

Our registered office is in Earley, on the eastern edge of Reading. That places us in the Thames Valley, between the technology employers of the M4 corridor and the professional-services firms that support them.

Reading also has direct rail links to Paddington and to the western M4 towns, which matters when a transaction timetable asks for three meetings in a week.

Visits are by appointment so that the adviser on the file is in the room. Write to us at [email protected] or call +44 20 7960 2493 to arrange a time.

The advisory background behind the work

Our engagements draw on corporate finance practice rather than on sales. The working method is familiar to anyone who has been through a transaction: define the decision, gather the numbers, test the assumptions, document the reasoning, and present it in a form a board can act on.

UK corporate finance advisory covers mergers and acquisitions, funding, debt and equity advice, and capital strategy. It is delivered by big-four firms, boutiques, banks and specialist consultancies. Larger firms bring process and bench strength; boutiques bring a named adviser who stays on the file. We are in the second group, and we do not pretend otherwise.

Every recommendation reaches the board with its assumptions, its alternatives and the reasoning that connects them.

What we expect of ourselves

None of these are unusual standards. They are simply the ones that tend to slip first when a firm gets busy, so we keep them written down where a client can hold us to them.

01

Scope is agreed in writing

Deliverables and fee basis are settled on both sides before the engagement starts, so there is no argument later about what was included.

02

The same adviser throughout

The person who scopes the engagement delivers it and stays on the file. Handovers happen when they are planned, not when a pitch team moves on to the next one.

03

A clear answer either way

If the answer is that a client should not proceed, we say that. Where a mandate falls outside our experience or our capacity at the time, we say so and, where we can, suggest the type of firm that fits better.

How we work with other advisers

Most mandates involve more than one firm. Lawyers, auditors, tax advisers and specialist reporting providers all sit on the same timetable, and the quality of coordination often decides whether a deadline is met.

Where a client needs regulatory reporting support, the work sits with specialist providers rather than with us, and we make sure our output can be handed across cleanly. The same applies to investment technology, where implementation expertise is a niche in its own right.

Long-term relationships rather than one-off transactions

A transaction closes and the relationship usually ends there. That is fine, but it is not the whole picture. Companies that raise capital inherit covenants, reporting obligations, and a board that has to explain performance to someone.

Some of our longest-running work is with clients who came for a single mandate and stayed for the ongoing governance and oversight questions that followed. That suits the way we are set up: the file stays with the same adviser.

The limits of what we do

We do not provide legal advice, audit opinions, tax returns, or regulated investment advice to retail clients. We do not manage money on a discretionary basis where that would require permissions we do not hold.

We also do not take on every enquiry. Saying no early is usually more useful to a client than saying yes and finding out later that the fit was wrong.
