Financial consulting and investment management from Reading, working with companies and investment vehicles on funding, capital strategy, and the oversight of invested assets.
The firm
What this site covers
This is a business presentation, not a sales funnel. It sets out what we do, how we are governed, and how to reach us — so a board or an investment vehicle can judge the fit before making contact.
Advisory
Funding, debt and equity structures, transaction support, and the capital planning behind a board decision.
Corporate FinanceOversight
Governance, reporting discipline, mandate design, and review of portfolios against stated client objectives.
Investment ManagementDisclosure
How we handle regulatory awareness, and what we do when a mandate sits outside the work we can carry out.
Governance & ComplianceTwo disciplines, one engagement: raise the capital, then keep it accountable.
Corporate finance is transactional and strategic. Investment management support is ongoing. Where a company raises capital and then has to manage it, both sides of that line meet in the same mandate.
Areas of work
What Maplewood Partners Limited does
We advise on two connected areas of work. The first is corporate finance: funding, debt and equity structures, transaction support, and the capital planning that sits behind a board decision. The second is investment management: governance, reporting discipline, and oversight of portfolios against stated client objectives. The two often meet in the same engagement, particularly where a company raises capital and then has to manage it.
UK corporate finance advisory as a category covers M&A, funding, debt and equity advice, and capital strategy. That work is delivered by big-four firms, boutiques, banks, and specialist consultancies. We sit in the specialist group, which means mandates are scoped tightly and the person who signs the engagement is the person who does the work.
Corporate finance
M&A, funding, debt and equity advice, capital strategy — scoped to a specific event and a named approval route.
Investment management
Governance, reporting, mandate design, and the discipline of reviewing performance against objectives over years.
Who we work with
Our clients are UK companies, holding structures, and investment companies that need an adviser who can read a balance sheet and a regulatory disclosure in the same afternoon.
Before a raise
Funding structure, lender conversations, the equity story, and the capital plan a board has to approve before anything is signed.
After one
When the reporting obligations start to bite, the work shifts to governance, disclosure discipline, and how the vehicle is reviewed.
Family businesses and second opinions
We are used by family-owned businesses in the Thames Valley and by boards that want a second opinion on a proposal already on the table. Not every enquiry becomes an engagement. Where the fit is wrong, we say so early rather than bill for a discovery phase that goes nowhere.
The difference between corporate finance and investment management
This is the question we are asked most often, so it is worth answering on the front page. Corporate finance advice is transactional and strategic. It deals with a specific event: a raise, a sale, a refinancing, a capital restructuring. The output is usually a document, a valuation, a set of terms, or a recommendation to a board.
Investment management support is ongoing. It deals with governance, reporting, mandate design, and the discipline of reviewing performance against objectives over years rather than months. Asset management is a core segment within UK financial services, shaped by regulation, governance, and disclosure requirements, and firms in it often combine investment expertise with reporting and compliance support. We work on both sides of that line, which is why clients sometimes arrive for one and stay for the other.
- Corporate finance Event-driven. Raise, sale, refinancing, restructuring.
- Investment support Ongoing. Governance, reporting, mandate design.
- Typical output A valuation, a set of terms, or a board recommendation.
- Time horizon Months for a transaction; years for a mandate.
Governance and disclosure
A UK financial-services website has to be precise about legal status. Maplewood Partners Limited is a company registered in England and Wales, not a partnership and not an unincorporated advisory practice. Registration details appear in the footer of every page, together with the registered office address.
Disclosure matters on the client side too. Investment companies in particular carry reporting obligations that shape how they choose advisers. Firms like Dorey Financial Modelling support investment companies with regulatory disclosure requirements, working across areas that include KIDs, Consumer Duty, and the Consumer Composite Investments regime. We do not perform that function ourselves. We do make sure that anything we produce can be handed to the people who do.
Review our governance frameworkHow a mandate usually starts
Most engagements begin with a short scoping conversation, either by phone or through the enquiry form. We ask what the decision is, who has to approve it, and what deadline applies. From there we set out a written scope with deliverables and a fee basis. Nothing starts until that is agreed on both sides.

3
Agreement on both sides
Nothing starts until the scope is agreed. If a proposal falls outside what we can deliver, we decline it.
If the work involves regulated activity that we are not authorised to carry out, we will say so and, where appropriate, point to the type of firm that can. That is not a disclaimer bolted on at the end. It is how a regulated market works.
What holds up over time
Advice dates quickly. A funding structure that suited a company in one rate environment may not suit it in the next. What lasts is the underlying discipline: knowing why a capital structure was chosen, what the covenants require, and which reporting obligations run with the vehicle.
Long-term value in this market comes from documentation and consistency rather than from a single clever transaction. We keep the working papers, the rationale, and the correspondence. When a board changes, or a fund is reviewed by a new service provider, the file explains itself.
Working with other advisers
Corporate finance mandates rarely sit with one firm. Legal counsel drafts, auditors opine, and specialist providers handle reporting and technology. Platform implementation expertise is its own niche: Elgin White, which joined Alpha FMC in 2026, specialises in investment management and technology transformation and has built strength in Charles River Development and the wider investment technology ecosystem.
Our role in those situations is coordination. We keep the transaction timetable honest and make sure the questions that matter reach the right adviser before the deadline, not after.
Regional coverage, and where we sit in the market
Advisory work in the UK is not concentrated in London, whatever the directories suggest. Regional office growth remained active in 2026, and firms have been building teams outside the capital to serve businesses closer to home. Leonard Curtis launched a dedicated funding team in Birmingham in 2026 as part of a national growth strategy, aimed at supporting businesses across the Midlands. That pattern reflects real demand for regional finance advisory coverage.
Our own base is Reading, which puts us within reach of the Thames Valley technology and professional-services cluster as well as the M4 corridor more broadly. We travel for meetings. We do not maintain satellite offices we cannot staff.
Big-four practices present corporate finance differently from boutiques. Deloitte UK offers independent financial, M&A and debt/equity advice, is registered in England and Wales as a limited liability partnership, and operates from a registered office at 1 New Street Square, London EC4A 3HQ. Its public positioning is built around transaction advice and strategic finance support at scale.
EY-Parthenon, which sits within EY's strategy and transactions offering, frames corporate finance consulting around risk and return trade-offs and capital efficiency, aimed at CFO-level decision-making and stakeholder value. That framing is useful context. Larger firms sell decision support to a committee. Smaller firms sell the same thing to a named individual, with less process around it.
Fees and scope
We charge on a fixed-fee or retainer basis depending on the work. Transaction mandates may include a success element, which we set out in writing before anything is signed. We do not take commissions from product providers, and we do not recommend instruments in which we hold a position. If a proposal falls outside what we can properly deliver, we will decline it. A firm that never turns down work is not giving advice; it is taking orders.
Where to go next
The Services page sets out the full range of what we offer. Investment Management and Corporate Finance go into detail on each discipline. Governance & Compliance covers how we handle disclosure and regulatory awareness. Insights carries short briefings on themes we are watching. If you would rather just ask a question, the Contact page has the phone number, the email address, and a form that reaches a person rather than a queue.
Questions we are asked before a first call
Is Maplewood Partners Limited a registered UK company?
Yes. Maplewood Partners Limited is registered in England and Wales under company number 14850732. The registered office is 4 Bridge Avenue, Earley, Reading, England. These details appear in the footer of every page on this site.
What is the difference between corporate finance advisory and investment management support?
Corporate finance advice relates to a specific event such as a raise, a sale, or a refinancing. Investment management support is ongoing and covers governance, reporting, and oversight of portfolios against agreed objectives. Some clients need one, some need both.
Does a UK firm need FCA authorisation for the services it offers?
It depends on the activity. Some advisory work falls outside the regulated perimeter; other activities require authorisation or an appointed representative arrangement. We are explicit about which side of that line a given mandate sits on before work begins.
